Other Testing & Assessment

Beyond our core ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, Depression, and Mood Disorder assessments, TrueMe® Counseling offers a wide range of evidence-based psychological evaluations tailored to more specific clinical questions. Every assessment is selected based on your individual concerns rather than using a one-size-fits-all testing battery.

Evidence-Based Psychological Assessment

Assessments at TrueMe® Counseling, includes evidence-based and measurement based—standardized instruments that have been scientifically developed, extensively researched, and validated for clinical use.

These assessments are selected based on your presenting concerns and may measure areas such as cognitive functioning, personality traits, emotional symptoms, executive functioning, trauma responses, behavioral patterns, adaptive functioning, and daily life impairment.

Using validated assessment tools helps reduce guesswork and supports more accurate diagnosis, individualized treatment planning, and objective clinical recommendations

OUR CLINICAL APPROACH

How we treat you — and why it works

Most therapy fails because it’s generic. At TrueMe® Counseling, our therapists use a structured, evidence-based framework built around your specific needs, history, and goals — not a one-size-fits-all program.Whether you’re across the street or across the state, we’re here — in person or virtually throughout California.

Understanding Your Concerns

Every person seeks psychological testing for a different reason. You may be looking for answers about emotional, behavioral, cognitive, personality, or psychological concerns, or you may need an evaluation to clarify a diagnosis, guide treatment, or support school, workplace, or personal needs. We begin by understanding your symptoms, history, goals, and the questions you hope the assessment will answer. Our goal is to provide clarity through a thorough and individualized evaluation.

Conducting a Comprehensive Evaluation

Psychological testing is much more than completing questionnaires. Depending on your needs, assessments may include tools such as the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI), Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R), Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), and other evidence-based measures when clinically appropriate. Every assessment battery is tailored to your specific concerns rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.

Providing an Accurate Clinical Understanding

Many psychological symptoms overlap across different mental health conditions, making an accurate evaluation essential. Our assessment process carefully considers mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, trauma-related conditions, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, substance use, and other psychological or medical factors that may contribute to your symptoms. By looking at the whole person—not just individual symptoms—we develop a comprehensive understanding that supports accurate diagnosis and meaningful recommendations.

Helping You Understand the Results

Once your evaluation is complete, we'll review the findings with you in clear, understandable language. We explain what the results mean, answer your questions, discuss any diagnoses when appropriate, and identify the factors contributing to your concerns. Our goal is to ensure you leave with a clear understanding of yourself—not simply a written report.

Developing Personalized Recommendations

The purpose of psychological testing is not simply to reach a diagnosis, but to guide meaningful next steps. Based on your results, we provide individualized recommendations that may include psychotherapy, specific evidence-based treatment approaches, school or workplace accommodations, referrals to other healthcare providers, medication evaluations when appropriate, or additional resources that support your goals and overall well-being.

Turning Answers Into Action

A psychological assessment provides more than information—it provides direction. Whether your evaluation confirms a diagnosis, rules out a condition, or identifies strengths that can be built upon, the insights gained can help you make informed decisions about your mental health, relationships, education, career, and future care. Our goal is to provide the clarity, confidence, and guidance you need to move forward with a deeper understanding of yourself and a plan that supports long-term success.

YOUR THERAPY JOURNEY

What to expect in therapy

Starting therapy can feel intimidating — especially when you’re already carrying so much. Here’s exactly what the process looks like, step by step.

Free consultation call

Before anything else, you’ll have a brief, no-pressure call to share what you’re going through and ask any questions you have. There’s no commitment — just a conversation to make sure we’re the right fit for you.

Your first session

Your first session is a relaxed, open conversation — not a test. Your therapist will take time to understand your history, your current experience, and what you’re hoping to achieve. Many clients leave their first session already feeling a sense of relief just from being heard.

A personalized plan

Your therapist will work with you to create a plan tailored specifically to your needs — not a generic program, but a personalized roadmap designed around your unique history, goals, and what you’re going through right now.

Ongoing sessions & real tools

Each session builds on the last. Using CBT and other evidence-based methods, your therapist will help you identify the thought patterns and behaviors holding you back — and equip you with practical tools you can use in real life between sessions.

Tracking your progress

Healing isn’t always linear — and your therapist knows that. Progress is regularly reviewed and your plan is adjusted as needed to ensure you’re always moving in the adirection at the right pace for you.

Life beyond therapy

The goal of therapy isn’t just symptom relief — it’s lasting transformation. You’ll finish therapy with a deeper understanding of yourself, a toolkit you carry for life, and the confidence to face whatever comes next.

FAQ - OTHER TESTING & ASSESSMENT

Frequently Asked Questions About Testing & Assessment

Honest answers from our therapists — before you take the first step.

1. How do I know which type of assessment is right for my situation?

The clearest answer is through a consultation — which is always the first step in our assessment process. Your clinician will gather a thorough history of your presenting concerns and what specific questions you are hoping the assessment will answer. You do not need to know which assessment you need before reaching out. That is precisely what the consultation is designed to determine — and we will always be honest if a different type of assessment would better serve your clinical needs.

2. How long does a specialized assessment take — and how many sessions are involved?

Most specialized assessments involve an initial consultation, one to three testing sessions of 60 to 90 minutes each, and a follow-up to review findings. The full process generally takes two to four weeks from consultation to results review. More complex assessments may require additional sessions. Your clinician will give you a clear and realistic timeline at the outset of the process.

3. What happens with the results — and who receives a copy of my assessment report?

Your assessment report belongs to you — and is shared with no one without your explicit written consent. Results are reviewed with you directly in a dedicated feedback session before any report is finalized or distributed. Nothing is sent anywhere without your knowledge and authorization. Your clinician will walk you through every section of the report so you leave with a clear understanding of what it says and what it means for your care.

4. Can a specialized assessment be used to obtain accommodations at school or work?

Yes — and this is one of the most practically significant applications of psychological testing. Our assessments are conducted using the validated, standardized instruments that institutions require — and our reports are written to meet documentation standards for academic and professional accommodation requests. If obtaining accommodations is a primary goal, please let us know at the outset so the evaluation is designed to support your specific needs.

5. Is specialized assessment covered by insurance?

TrueMe® Counseling is a private pay practice and does not bill insurance directly. However, your plan may include out-of-network benefits that partially reimburse assessment costs. We are currently partnered with Mentaya and you can check our Fees & Insurance page to check your eligibility. We are happy to provide documentation supporting reimbursement claims and will walk you through everything before you commit to anything.
